Online Gaming Gear
Online gaming is a popular pastime for millions of Internet users around the world. There are hundreds of interactive games online that you can play by yourself or with other live players that let you create characters, fly planes, build worlds, fight opponents, and much more. Online gaming is so popular that entire new technology industries have built up around the online gaming community. Many players choose to enhance their online gaming experience by using online gaming gear to really get into the game.
One of the most popular types of online gaming gear is the interactive headset. Players can use headsets, which are either wireless or plug directly into the computer, to input voice commands, talk to other players, intensify sound effects and more. Some online gaming headsets are specific to the game being played, while others are for more general use and can be integrated with a number of MMORPGs (massive multi-player online role playing games) such as Everquest and City of Heroes/City of Villains.
Headsets that can be used for specific games or game manufacturers include the Xbox Live headset and the USB headset for Playstation 2. These super-sized video game manufacturers offer a number of online gaming platforms that feature some of their most popular home video games in a multi-player setting. Xbox and Playstation 2 players can use their headsets to chat with other players in real time, play with voice commands, and more. They both include voice cancellation options, noise canceling microphones, and the ability to mute conversations in order to hold private talks with just one or two other players.
There are also many online gaming gear headsets that can be used in general for many different games, including those found at free online gaming sites. Examples of this type of online gaming headset include the Microsoft Sidewinder and the Logitech series of interactive voice chat headsets, up to the Extreme Interactive headset. Interactive voice chat headsets allow online gamers to connect with and speak to anyone else using the same software and headset, as well as input voice commands, which can be extremely beneficial when you are trying to play on a gaming server that reacts faster than your fingers. Online gaming headsets in general produce a clear, crisp sound that allows for more exciting gaming online and a better experience.
Keyboards are the primary method for control in an online gaming environment. However, there are some video game companies and online gaming corporations that have developed even more interaction and control with gaming controllers designed specifically for interactive online gaming. A popular flight simulation game has made available a game controller that has the look and feel of a real airplane control console, with a motion-sensitive joystick and several buttons. There are also several simpler joysticks and console pads available that can be configured to interact with a wide variety of online gaming servers.
Nintendo's forthcoming Wii controller is an example of a game-specific controller that opens up a new realm of possibilities in the online gaming world. This high-technology controller will have motion-sensitive capacities built in to both the left and the right-handed controllers. The Wii has been designed to use with many of Nintendo's online games, and can mimic a number of different controllers. Online gamers will be able to use the Wii to reel in a bass, serve a tennis ball, conduct a virtual symphony, and much more—there is even a planned game that will allow you to use the Wii controller as a samurai sword!
For the ultimate in online gaming interaction, many online gamers choose to invest in some form of webcam to heighten their online gaming experience. As a rule, webcams can be used for live, face-to-face chat, which makes them great for communicating in real time with your virtual teammates as you play. Webcams are popular features with home PCs, and many online gamers already possess the technology. There are also specialty webcams for Xbox online gaming, PSP and PS2 games, and interactive online gaming at the next level. One of these is called the Creative Game Star. This webcam puts you directly onto the computer screen and allows your body movements to control the game in things like karate and dance games. The Playdo-cam works in a similar manner, putting the online gamer directly on to the screen so that your body movements coordinate directly with the graphics. You can reach out and "grab" your virtual targets with these hyper sensitive webcams and bring new meaning to the phrase "get in the game"!
Whether you just want to stick with the old-fashioned keyboard interaction (and maybe throw in a live chat or instant messaging window) or go all out with headsets, specialized game controllers, and webcams, the world of online gaming can be a wonderful place. It can be very exciting to meet new people online, play challenging games, and interact with other online gaming enthusiasts who possess a wide variety of experience and skill levels. Get in the game today!
